Over the past nine weeks, we’ve been expanding further how you see yourself and what you’re capable of. This week, we’re going to look in detail at your limits and how you might be holding yourself back.
Let’s start by watching the video below:
I’d like you to think of 3 things you’d really like to do, but you’ve decided are out of reach. It could look something like this:
- A pull up
- Lose a stone
- Ask for a raise at work
Next up, why are they out of reach? I’d like you to write down stream of consciousness style – everything you think – I want you to catch your thoughts at it.
Now these thoughts will all come back to beliefs you hold about yourself and who you are. Let’s take the pull up example:
I want to do a pull up, but I have no upper body strength. I’m not strong, I’ve never been able to do them, I don’t know where to start, I don’t think I’ll ever be able to do them, I don’t look like x who can do them, I need to lose some weight first, I’m too heavy etc etc
With all that going on without you even being aware of it, how likely are you to:
Find out what you need to do to be able to do a pull up
Start doing it consistently
Make any necessary changes to your diet or lifestyle
Commit to it as a real goal for yourself
Very unlikely! So, therefore it’s very unlikely to happen!
What can we do about it?
Being aware of the thoughts is the biggest thing and we’ve done lots of work so far on how to clear them – go back to the lesson on affirmations. Today, however, I wanted to give you a little shock as to your self-imposed beliefs. We all have them and they affect all of our lives, but we have the power to do something about them. So I wanted to give you a little shake:
YOU ARE STRONG
YOU ARE POWERFUL
YOU ARE CAPABLE
YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL
YOU ARE EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO BE
YOU ARE A DECISION-MAKER
YOU ARE FLEXIBLE
YOU ARE COMPETENT
YOU ARE GOOD ENOUGH
YOU ARE DESERVING OF ALL YOU WANT
If you like, print this list out and put it somewhere you will see it every day to remind yourself.
You are all of these things and it is your choice as to whether you want to hold yourself back from the world. We’ve all been through shit, we all have struggles, but we all get to choose every day to be who we are and to be unlimited.
Today is day one. Be unlimited.
Love yourself. Every day.
